Day 1: Arrival in Milan
Arrival at your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Sacri Monti and Isola San Giulio
Start your day with a trip to Lake Orta. Above the town of Orta there’s a hill called "Sacro Monte d'Orta" that is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Sacri Monti. Its 20 chapels date from 1590 and are devoted to Saint Francis of Assisi.
From Lake Orta’port, travel by ship to the small island of San Giulio, which is named after the beautiful basilica that towers over the island.
In the afternoon your journey continues to Varallo. The Sacro Monte di Varallo also dates to the 15th century and is one of the oldest of its kind.
Admire the Basilica with its numerous chapels, which were artistically designed by Piedmontese artists over this long long period.
In the evening, return to your hotel and have dinner.
Day 3: Oropa, Biella and Sordevolo
After breakfast you will visit Oropa. This place of pilgrimage is situated in the middle of magnificent mountain scenery at an altitude of 1,200 meters. It’s considered the most important Marian cult site in the Alps. After arriving in Biella, your guide will show you the 11th century cathedral and the Baptistery. The cable car will take you up hill to the medieval district of Piazzo. There you can walk through characteristic colonnades and visit old palaces and noble villas, whose gardens enjoy panoramic views of the lower Biella and its spectacular mountain range.
Continue to Sordevolo. Before the Passion Play begins in the evening, enjoy dinner in a local restaurant.
After the performance make your way back to your hotel.
Day 4: Continue your journey
After breakfast, it’ll be time to say "Arrivederci" to this region.

Since 1816 the entire parish of Sordevolo has been performing the stage play of the Passion of Christ. It is the largest choral piece ever performed in Italy by lay actors. It takes place in an open space of 4,000 square meters and is a re-creation of Jerusalem from the year 33 AD with Herod's Palace, Synedrium, Pontius Pilatus Praetoritum, Garden Gethsemane, Cenacle and Calvary. The three-hour performance consists of a prologue and 29 scenes with a total participation of about 400 actors.
