Interview

Why did you join APPINA TRAVEL?

Joining APPINA Travel was an opportunity I could not miss - The chance to gain experience in a new area of the hospitality industry and continue to feed my passion for travel, and Europe in particular, was perfect for me.  In 1998 when I was 18 years old, I took my first over seas trip to Ireland from Canada and I have not stopped travelling since!  I truly feel travelling can open your eyes and teach things you will never learn in school.  Because of this, it gives me great pleasure to be able to offer these life changing experiences to people.

What are your experiences with the travel industry?

I have been working in the hotel industry for 18 years, starting in British Columbia working for Whistler Blackcomb.  Then moving to Toronto to work for a boutique hotel in the sales division while I saved every penny to take a year off and travel the world.  In 2006, I quit my job and boarded a one way flight to Bangkok with a years worth of travel money saved and a backpack.  During this time, I spent 3 months travelling through South East Asia, 3 months in India and finally 6 months in East Africa working at an orphanage and travelling.  I am proud to be able to say I successfully climbed Mount Kilimanjaro!

My travels ended in London, which would become my home for the next 8 years.  In London I worked in a 5 star hotel on Park Lane managing leisure accounts and spent every bank holiday weekend exploring Europe and the UK.  After a fast 8 years in London and 2 children later, we moved to the tiny country of Malta for 2 years before coming back to Canada.  It was amazing to immerse my family and I in a totally different culture in such a unique country.  We moved back to Canada about a year ago and the adventures continue!

What experiences did you have in your first meetings with clients?

I am learning so much from each meeting, people have been very helpful in teaching me about the industry.  I am very excited to meet new people and become a part of the Groups Travel industry here in Canada.

What is your favourite spot in Europe / Germany??

I have to say one of my best memories of Germany is sitting in a small alley in Berlin on a patio, drinking a beer, listing to a busker singing the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and people watching!  Next would have to be visiting the UNESCO World Heritage town of ?eský Krumlov? in the Czech Republic - It is just like a fairy tale!  Lastly, visiting the mountain region, Zakopane, in Poland is also on my top 10! There are too many to choose from!
