Day 2: Cologne

After breakfast you will explore the area around the Cathedral and the Old Town. Many sights are concentrated within one square kilometer of the Cathedral, town hall and the old town with the Romanesque church of Groß St. Martin. In the narrow, cobble-stoned alleys of the Old Town and on the busy squares like the Roncalliplatz, the Alter Markt or the Heumarkt, you will get a feeling for life in the cathedral city, yesterday and today. Afterwards you will visit the most famous building in the city and find out why the people of Cologne wanted to build "the largest church in the world. In the afternoon you will see 2 very interesting museums, the Romano-Germanic Museum and the Chocolate Museum. The Romano-Germanic Museum was completed in 1974 above the place where the Dionysos mosaic was found. The collection gives a lively picture of the Roman culture on the Rhine over three floors. The Chocolate Museum seems a futuristic ship, made of glass and aluminum. A tour of the exhibition extends over three floors of the museum and takes you on a journey through the 3,000 year history of chocolate – from "the food of the Gods" for the Aztecs to a modern industrial product. Dinner and overnight stay in Cologne.
