Pre and Post tour for Cruises on River Danube

Tour Suggestion:

River Danube – After your arrival with the cruise ship in Regensburg or Passau we show you Germany. Discover with us traditions, costumes and delicates of Nuremberg and Dresden. Afterwards we recommend to continue to Prague or to another city.

Day 1: Arrival in Regensburg or Passau and transfer to Nuremberg

Today you’ll reach the last stop of your river cruise early in the morning. Our tour guide will welcome you in Regensburg or Passau and take you on a discovery tour through the city. After lunch, we’ll travel to Nuremberg where you’ll check into your hotel for the next days. After the check-in, you’ll go on a culinary walk through Nuremberg. Among other things, you’ll find out why bratwurst is called Bratwurst and what’s so special about the Nuremberg gingerbread. The evening will be free-time for you.

Day 2: Nuremberg

Not only the Kaiserburg, gingerbread and bratwurst make Nuremberg famous, but also the museums and the historic buildings. Take a city tour and get a comprehensive impression of Nuremberg with its former Reich’s Party Grounds and explore the old town on foot with our guide. Today, we focus on the Kaiserburg. It’s the symbol of Nuremberg and one of the most historically and architecturally significant fortifications in Europe.
This afternoon is all about beer. Discover the historic stone corridors in Nuremberg - southern Germany's largest rock cellar labyrinth at the foot of the Kaiserburg. We’ll also visit the brewery and whiskey distillery as part of our tour. Experience the high quality of the various beer specialties and bierbrands for yourself, and enjoy delicious drinks together with Franconian delicacies.

Day 3: Nuremberg

Today you’ll go to the documentation center at the Reich’s Party Grounds. This exhibition is located in the southern part of Nuremberg in the incomplete congress hall on the former Reich’s party grounds. There gigantic building remains testify the National Socialist regime’s delusions of grandeur. A guided tour focuses on the connections, causes and consequences of the National Socialist tyranny.
The afternoon will be free-time for you. In Nuremberg, sightseeing and shopping can be easily combined, since museums, churches and romantic winding streets with many attractions are just steps away from shopping areas, craftsman centers, fine specialties shops and gold and silversmiths.

Day 4: Nuremberg

A tour of Faber-Castell - today you’ll travel to Stein near Nuremberg, the world-famous producer of writing and drawing instruments. Experience the 250-year history of this influential family and successful company during a combined castle and museum tour. The afternoon will then be golden: In a museum with the Goldschlaeger demonstration workshop, you’ll experience how small gold bars are converted into leafs of golds, just a 10,000th of a millimeter thick. On the way back to Nuremberg you’ll stop at a gingerbread producer. Here you’ll learn about the history of Nuremberg gingerbread, and you can buy gingerbread to take home. In the evening you can sample the Nuremberg bratwurst air. We reserved a table for dinner in a traditional restaurant for you.

Day 5: Trip to Bayreuth and Bamberg

Today, you’ll explore the cities of Bayreuth and Bamberg. First, we travel to the Wagner-Stadt in Bayreuth which became world-famous because of the Richard Wagner festivals. The opera house is probably the best preserved baroque theatre in Europe and has been a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage since 2012. Starting in the spring of 2018, we’ll also tour the opera house. In Bayreuth you will also find charming castles as well as the historical Hermitage park with dreamy caverns and fountains.
In the afternoon you’ll travel to Bamberg. The old emperor's and bishop's city was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1993. Return to the hotel in Nuremberg in the evening.

Afterwards, a Franconian Haeckerbrotzeit will be served for lunch. In the afternoon, we travel back to Nuremberg. You’ll stop in medieval Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Here you can take a tour of the historic old town with its romantic streets and picturesque sights. Then, return to the hotel in Nuremberg.

Day 7: Trip to Dresden

Today you’ll leave Bavaria and travel to Saxony, where the Elbflorenz Dresden is waiting for you. Before you reach the city, you will arrive at the baroque Moritzburg castle. Today's fairy-tale castle was built as a hunting castle and used under August the Strong primarily as a venue for lavish parties. After the long coach ride, you’ll have the opportunity to stretch your legs during a walk in the castle park. Then, you’ll check into your hotel in Dresden.
In the late afternoon, your guide will pick you up and take you for a stroll through the old city. Frauenkirche, Zwinger, Semperoper, Fuerstenzug and residential castle are only a few of the highlights. The evening will be spent in a baroque vault restaurant with regional dishes and an entertainment program. Overnight stay in Dresden.

Day 8: Saxon Switzerland

Today you'll take a day trip to the Saxon Switzerland. It lies southeast of Dresden and is characterized by bizarre rock formations. You start in the morning in Dresden and travel to Pillnitz with a historic paddle steamer on the Elbe. The former Lustschloss of the Saxon royal house is located here. After a tour of the castle grounds, which is considered to be the most important chinoise castle complex in Europe, you’ll enjoy a typical Saxon potato soup. Then we continue to Bastei by coach.
