Day 1: The Beauty of Berlin

Welcome to the vibrant, dynamic city of Berlin, a city famous for its diversity and exciting culture. Your tour guide will meet you at the airport, where you will begin your adventure with a private tour of Berlin.   As you traverse the illustrious Unter den Linden Avenue, marvel at the many historical sites of importance, such as the imposing Brandenburg Gate and the classically elegant Reichstag Building.  Continuing on your journey, you’ll view the famous Siegessaule, which is right at the heart of Berlin’s colossal Tiergarten.  The Potsdamer Platz, a huge project of redevelopment and renovation, is a centre of modern architecture of futuristic proportions.  The gleaming glass, the neon lights, shops, restaurants, and monuments have created a bustling centre for trade and tourism.
This evening, revel in a welcome dinner with your tour companions, toasting your upcoming adventures and discoveries.

Day 2: Marvelous Museum Island

This morning, you will have the opportunity to explore the uniquely charming and historic Museum Island, given UNESCO status in 1999.  View the beautiful architecture of these five museums and discover the vast myriad of treasures and artefacts within.   A guided tour of this glorious national treasure will be certain to enlighten and enrich.  After your tour, you will have the rest of the day to explore the vast collections of these historical wonders.  From the archeological wonders of Ancient Egypt and Greece to the art of modern times, these museums offer immense opportunity for learning and enjoyment.

Day 3: Perfect Potsdam

This morning, a combination coach and walking tour will immerse you in the beauty of the amazing Hollandaise Quarter of Potsdam, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Built in the 1700s to house Dutch artists and craftsman, these lovely red brick houses with their quintessentially Dutch facades are a delight to view.   The vast and amazing Park of Sanssouci Castle continues to amaze visitors as they have for centuries.  Explore this colossal park, home to various historical buildings and dramatic beauty.  With the stunning Sanssouci Castle as backdrop, you will truly understand why many consider it the German version of Versailles.  Also recommended is the opulent New Palace, an exquisite Baroque masterpiece that is certain to impress and inspire.  The colossal array of elegant parks and striking architecture creates a seemingly endless opportunity for discovery.   
This afternoon, enjoy a café lunch in Potsdam with your friends, perhaps in one of the many local parks or courtyards.  
Dinner in Berlin with your tour group, and then overnight in Berlin.


Day 4: Wonderful Wittenberg and Delightful Dessau

This morning, set off to the gorgeous Saxony-Anhalt region, continuing your UNESCO inspired adventure of Germany.   Brimming with UNESCO World Heritage Sites, you will visit the Schlosskirche, St. Mary’s Church, the Luther House and the Melanchthon House.  Delve into the work of Martin Luther, who famously nailed his 95 Thesis to the door of Wittenberg's Schlosskirche, sparking the great Protestant revolution against the Catholic Church. St. Mary's Church, where Luther often preached, allows visitors to step into the past of the great man and offers a glimpse of Lucas Cranach the Elder’s Last Supper. A visit to the respective homes of Martin Luther and Phillip Melanchthon will be certain to intrigue and surprise.  
Enjoy lunch in handsome Wittenberg with your tour companions.  
A combination coach and walking tour of the UNESCO designated Bauhaus buildings of Dessau will impress and delight.   Journey through the city centre, viewing the many important and striking Bauhaus buildings of Dessau. Walter Gropius' Employment Office, the Consumption Building, and Hannes Meyer's  Laubenganghauser all offer insight into the world of Bauhaus.  The Federal Environment Agency, designed by Sauerbruch Hutton, offers a truly amazing structure to behold.  Colourful on the outside, and full of vibrant plant life in the huge indoor atrium, it continues to pleasantly surprise visitors and employees alike.
A highlight is the Bauhaus Building, a UNESCO appointed World Heritage Site.  Designed by Walter Gropius, this sleek building was completed in 1926.  The dark windows of the building are a stunning contrast to the pristine white concrete exterior.   Be amazed at the architecture of the building while you unearth the priceless creations and artefacts of the Bauhaus.   Your guide will provide you with fascinating information as you take in the surrounding world of Bauhaus.
Dinner with your tour companions and overnight in the Dessau region.


Day 5: The Glorious Gardens of Dessau-Worlitz

A visit to the outstandingly beautiful Dessau-Worlitz Garden Realm sets the scene for a day of delights and discoveries.  Featuring the oldest and largest English garden in continental Europe, this UNESCO designated area was designed to evoke a natural setting in which flora and fauna could thrive.  This colossal garden of natural delights and meandering waterways with the Middle Elbe Biosphere also includes a variety of charming castles, palaces, bridges, and even a man-made volcano.  A peaceful gondola ride through this breathtakingly vast natural region will help orient visitors while providing insight into the wonderous eco-system.  Enjoy free time at this wonderful park, exploring its pathways and secrets.
Continue onward to the region of Goslar for dinner with your tour companions and an overnight stay.


Day 6: Gorgeous Goslar

This morning, admire the beauty of Goslar, a scenic Medieval mining town which was once considered the “Rome of the North” in ancient times.  Deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992, this town is a treasure trove of delightful cobblestone streets, secret winding laneways, and stunning half-timbered and Medieval architecture.   
A guided visit of the Mines of Rammelsberg will whisk you away into a millennia of mining history.  A symbol of wealth and prestige, the mines offer visitors an informative glimpse into the past of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.  View the ancient water wheels, tunnels, buildings and artifacts associated with the vast history of this underground labyrinth.
This afternoon, a guided city tour of Goslar makes for an idyllic way to spend the rest of your day. View the handsome architecture of the old town while learning more about the culture and history of this venerated city.

Day 7: Radiant Ruhr

This morning, you will continue to Ruhr region. First, visit the Zollverein Coal Mine, designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001.  An important symbol of industrialism of the Ruhr area, this once-active coal mine is now a mecca for culture and the arts.  A guided tour, led by a former coal miner, will offer insight into the lives and daily routines of these intrepid men and women.

Day 8: The Classic Elegance of Cologne and Upper Middle Rhine Valley

This morning, revel in a guided tour of the gorgeous city of Cologne.  A cultural mecca for the region, this breathtaking riverside city offers visitors a plethora of striking architecture and picturesque beauty.  The Cologne Cathedral, a highlight of your tour, will be certain to inspire and amaze.  Admire the exquisite gothic architecture of this monument to religion and achievement as you explore this venerated UNESCO World Heritage Site.
After enjoying lunch in this stunning city, you will continue your adventure with a scenic coach tour of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley.  From the comfort of your coach, prepare to be amazed as you learn more about the UNESCO Upper German-Raetian Limes World Heritage Site. This ancient and mighty line of defense of the Roman Empire against the powerful Germanic Tribes dates back to the early 2nd century.   
Continue onward through the breathtaking countryside of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a region of outstanding natural beauty.  The rocky outcrops, the azure waterways of the Rhine and the mesmerizing pastoral scenery create the perfect atmosphere for a delightful river cruise.  Embarking on a two-hour cruise of this amazing river, reveling in the charm of the countryside while visiting important cultural and natural wonders like the Loreley Rock.

Day 9: Spectacular Speyer Cathedral and Marvelous Maulbronn Monastery

Day 10: Wondrous Wurzburg

This morning, travel to the magical town of Wurzburg.   Revel in the opulent baroque and rococo architecture of this beautiful city, which was rebuilt after World War 2.  Once the great seat of power for the prince-bishops of Germany, no visit to Wurzburg is complete without a guided tour of the lavish UNESCO appointed Wurzburg Residence and gardens.   This colossal palace, with its over 300 rooms, illustrates the grand power of the ancient regional rulers.   The vast, colourfully manicured gardens of this spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Building also offers visitors great intrigue, as it serves as home to several ancient churches.

Day 11: Departure or Lovely Lake Constance

Depending on the interests of your tour group, you will either depart for home or continue on your travels.  
With options to extend your stay, you could discover the wonders of the UNESCO prehistoric pile dwellings of the Alps, an ancient settlement dating back thousands of years.  Explore the lifestyle and work of these intrepid farmers and fishermen at the local museum, which offers great insight with numerous ancient artifacts.  Admire the beauty of Lake Constance as you step back in time to another realm of history.
