Along the Danube Cycle Path from Ulm to Regensburg

Along the Danube Cycle Path from Ulm to Regensburg

Tour Suggestion

Day 1: Arrival - Ulm

Arrive by plane in Munich or Stuttgart. You will meet your guide at the airport and be transferred by bus to Ulm. To get in the mood, you will take a city tour of Ulm, where you will also see the famous Ulm Cathedral. Dinner and overnight stay in the Ulm region.

Day 2: Ulm - Lauingen/Dillingen region (approx. 55 km / 34 miles)

After breakfast you will start your cycling tour along the Danube. On the ride from Ulm to Dillingen, you will pass several small towns, which are well preserved and always a bit off the beaten track and safe from floods. For example, in Elchingen the pilgrimage church is worth seeing or in Guenzburg the Liebfrauenkirche which was built in Rococo style. Today's destination, Dillingen, is famous for its royal history. Here, the castle is definitely worth seeing. Dinner and overnight stay in the Lauingen/Dillingen region.

Day 3: Lauingen/Dillingen region - Donauwoerth (approx. 40 km, 25 miles)

After you have had a filling breakfast, your first destination is Hoechstaedt with a visit to the castle of the Counts of Palatinate-Neuburg. You will continue on beautiful biking routes through the Danube meadows to Donauwoerth, where the most important trade route between Nuremberg and Augsburg used to cross the Danube. The magnificent town houses still show the historical importance of the town today. Dinner and overnight stay in the Donauwoerth region.

Day 4: Donauwoerth - Ingolstadt (approx. 65 km, 40 miles)

Today you will reach the foothills of the Franconian Alb, which requires cycling through gentle hills. The route via Graisbach, Lechsend, Marxheim to Bertoldsheim is therefore alternately uphill and downhill and continues towards Neuburg. On this day you will see numerous castles (such as the castle of Leipheim or Bertoldsheim). The most beautiful Renaissance castle on the route is probably the one in Neuburg. Neuburg is also worth a stop to see the court church and the city theater, as well as other points of interest. Through larger forest areas you will reach your destination Ingolstadt today. After arrival, you can visit the Mobile Museum and take a stroll through the old town. Dinner and overnight stay in the Ingolstadt region.

Day 5: Ingolstadt - Neustadt/Bad Goegging/Kelheim region (approx. 55 km / 34 miles)

On the way to Kelheim you will drive today via Neustadt and further through a hop-growing area and a gentle hilly country to Bad Goegging. As you continue, you will enter the Danube valley and experience the Danube breakthrough between Weltenburg and Kelheim. Here the Danube forces its way through the rocks of the Franconian Jura Mountains. The famous Weltenburg Abbey, a Benedictine monastery, was built here on a flat sandbank. You can now ride over the wooded ridge to Kelheim (about 6 km / 4 miles with inclines) or take the more comfortable option by boat through the Danube breakthrough from Weltenburg to Kelheim and enjoy the view. In Kelheim you can also go up to the Liberation Hall, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view. Dinner and overnight stay in the region of Neustadt/Bad Goegging/Kelheim.

Day 6: Neustadt/Bad Goegging/Kelheim region - Regensburg (approx. 40 km / 25 miles)

On the last stage of our journey, we continue via Bad Abbach to Regensburg. Now the Danube flows again in a wider valley. Regensburg is considered the northernmost point of the Danube. After arrival, take a stroll through the city. Dinner and overnight stay in the Regensburg region.

Day 7: Regensburg

Today you will visit the city of Regensburg on a guided tour and get to know the most important sights. In the afternoon, the bus will take you to Munich. Here you will explore the highlights of the city and review the trip over a traditional dinner. Overnight stay in Munich.

Day 8: Return flight from Munich
