Tour Suggestion
Day 1: Arrival
Arrive by plane in Munich or Frankfurt. You will meet your guide at the airport and be transferred by bus to the medieval town of Rothenburg. After you have settled in, enjoy a guided city tour to explore one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. Dinner and overnight stay in the Rothenburg region.
Day 2: From Rothenburg to Bad Mergentheim (approx. 55 km / 34 miles)
Today you will get on your bikes and start exploring! You begin your day by cycling along the Tauber River into the unspoiled Tauber Valley. Here you will pass the small towns of Bettwar, Tauberzell and Archshofen. The first cultural stop is the town of Creglingen with an old town center and classic half-timbered houses. The highlight of the town is the beautifully restored castle. After a short breather, you will continue through Bieberehren, Roettingen, with visits to the baroque town hall and the wine village of Tauberrettersheim. Before you reach your destination for the day, you will make a short stop in Weikersheim. The town is famous for its castle, but the former town fortifications and the historic marketplace are also impressive. From here we carry in through vineyards and orchards to Bad Mergentheim. Dinner and overnight in the Bad Mergentheim region.
Day 3: From Bad Mergentheim to Wertheim (approx. 55 km / 34 miles)
You leave Bad Mergentheim and continue along the Tauber River. You will pass through small, idyllic villages. For example, Lauda with its historic town center. In Tauberbischofsheim you will be in awe after visiting the old castle, churches, chapels and the remains of a city fortification. As the valley becomes narrower and narrower, you will pass small churches and villages. Along the route you will notice the forest becoming more dense. After passing monasteries and castles you will reach your destination today, Wertheim, a romantic town with a historic city center. Dinner and overnight in the Wertheim region.
Day 4: From Wertheim to Gemuenden (approx. 53 km / 33 miles):
Today you will ride along the Main River. You start from Wertheim and drive through idyllic countryside and smaller towns. The first major stop will be in Marktheidenfeld. Here you can visit the town's most famous landmark - St. Laurentius Church. As you continue your way along the cycle path you will pass Erlach, with its old monastery complex. In Lohr, the gateway to the Spessart, you can take a moment to admire the typical half-timbered houses and the small castle. You will drive along the Main River, passing between high mountains, and finally to the small town of Gemuenden - our destination for today. Before dinner you will have time to explore the castle ruins. Dinner and overnight in the Gemuenden region.
Day 5: From Gemuenden to Dettelbach (approx. 86 km / 53.5 miles):
You start in Gemuenden in the direction of Karlstadt. This medieval town impresses with its historical buildings. From Karstadt, you will drive along the Main River through vineyards to Wuerzburg. Take some time to explore the "young city" with its sights, such as the Wuerzburg Residence. Next you will pass through wine growing areas with small historic towns, e.g. Ochsenfurt with its medieval fort or Markbreit with its Malerwinkel. Eventually, you will reach Kitzingen with its beautiful town hall, towers and town wall. You continue onwards through the meadows of the Main River to Dettelbach where you will see 30 well preserved towers and the city wall. Dinner and overnight in the Dettelbach region.
Day 6: From Dettelbach to Volkach (approx. 13 km / 8 miles)
You start from Dettelbach and drive through the vineyards to Volkach. After a lunch in the historic town you start your way by bus to Frankfurt or Munich. Dinner and overnight in Frankfurt or Munich.
Day 7: Flight home from Frankfurt or Munich
