After a vitalising breakfast you will go on a boat trip alongside the most beautiful areas of the Rhine – a splendid countryside and fertile vineyards are the ideal setting for indulgence. A lot of romantic castles, the Palatinate near Kaub or the castle Schönburg proudly guard the valley of the Loreley and tell a moving story full of myths. In St. Goarshausen you reach the magical Loreley, which annually lures thousands of people from all over the world. Just some kilometres downstream near Kamp-Bornhofen you meet the so-called “Hostile Brothers” (German: Feindliche Brüder – 2 castles). Enjoy the unique view and a whiff of the Middle Ages on board the boat. After approximately 4 hours you reach Koblenz. Here your tour guide already awaits you. During a guided tour you get to know the city and its historic centre. The romantic lanes between the basilica St. Kastor and the Liebfrauen church are now the most important tourist attractions. Besides, you should not miss The Emperor William monument at the “Deutsche Eck” (German corner) and the town’s landmark, the Schängel fountain at the town hall. Overnight stay in the area of Cologne/Bonn.
Day 4: Koblenz – Cologne
After breakfast you go on a discovery tour in Cologne. A lot of places of interest are located on just one square kilometre around the Cologne Cathedral, the town hall and in the historic city with its Romanic church Great St. Martin. Take a look at the Roman Dionysos mosaic and the Jewish ritual bath, the Mikwe. In the narrow paved lanes of the historic city and in vibrant places like the Roncalli site, The Old Market or the Hay Market, you will get an impression of what life was (and still is) like in the cathedral city. In the afternoon you can choose what you would like to do. For instance, you could visit the Chocolate Museum or just stroll in the streets of Cologne. In the evening we have a special highlight for you: in the evening we are going to put you in a romantic mood on a boat trip on the Rhine (possible only on Wednesdays and Thursdays!).
